Internet Downloads: How to Safely and Legally Download Software and Media

If you read newspapers or watch the television, you have most likely heard something about the epidemic of internet downloading. You’ve probably heard about the 12-year-old kids that are being hauled to court for downloading illegal music. If you are just getting started on the internet, it is very possible to be overly cautious in avoiding downloads. The word itself may have negative connotations for you, and you may see flashes of ending up in prison for downloading things. This is not the case. Downloading will give you access to things that will improve your computer, entertain you, and inform you. You just need to know where the line is drawn between legal and illegal.

One thing that is frequently downloaded, both legally and illegally, is software. There are many pieces of software that can make your computer run smoother, or do things for you that make your life easier overall. Many people pirate software, which means they download it then use programs to unlock it and get it working on their computer, without paying for it. If you want some software, you should not attempt to pirate it. Instead, you should look for either a trial version or a freeware version. For any given idea, you can find people who have copied the idea and distribute it for free.

People also illegally download movies and TV shows frequently. If you are on a computer and feel like watching some media for entertainment, there are many choices that are better than downloading movies. Using some of the most popular video uploading services such as YouTube, you can search for videos and find all sorts of funny clips. Some are clips from movies, or skits. You can also find interesting and informative documentaries. The internet is never a boring place, as long as you know where to go.

As you can see, there is a very fine line that is drawn between good downloading and bad downloading. When you download copyrighted material without paying for it, you can assume that it is bad. But you can find lots of content from people who have not placed copyrights on it, and who are fine with sharing it with the world. Just figure out where to look for this sort of thing, and you will be able to avoid any bad downloading.
